You've probably already heard about the dreaded ILOVEYOU worm (sometimes
called a virus) and have heard to look out for e-mail with the subject
line of ... fill in the blank... and not to click on the attachment
for it. Well that's dangerously inadaquite advice in my book! Here's
what to look for!
Nearly 25% of MIS and Security Managers have experienced a computer
break-in in the past year according to a recent survey from
the Computer Security Institute. Computer Security Institute and
the FBI estimates 1997 losses from computer crimes in the U.S. to
reached $136 million, an increase of 36 percent from 1996.
A majority of computer attacks on corporate sites causing more than
$200,000 in losses.
A recent study by the International Computer Security Association
(ICSA) revealed that 93% of corporate web sites are vulnerable
to Internet threats. While not all of the vulnerable sites will
suffer security breaches, the number of enterprises that suffered
a leak of proprietary information increased by 58% in 1998.
